At the Everett Haitian Community Center, we believe that the community is not monolithic. Our people come from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, yet we continue to find strength in our shared values of unity, respect, and intentional leadership. This year’s 2025 State of the Community Legislative Brunch was a powerful testament to what it means to build equitable, sustainable community wealth, not through fleeting transactions, but through deep, transformational partnerships grounded in trust.
We extend our profound gratitude to the outstanding researchers, speakers, presenters, legislative partners, and authentic leaders who joined us in meaningful dialogue around what it takes to move our communities forward. From health access to education, job readiness to local empowerment, we celebrated the strides we’ve made—and ignited momentum for the work still ahead.
The event featured research results from both qualitative and quantitative analyses, offering a vital framework for evidence-based solutions that our communities across the Commonwealth can implement. Special thanks to Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Milady, and Nakita for their impressive presentation on their collaborative efforts with EHCC. Together, we’ve engaged over 1,000 residents through conversations, focus groups, and surveys—an important foundation as we now work to solve the complex issues uncovered.
A powerful opening was delivered by none other than Mrs. Bernadette Adonis, affectionately known as the second mother of our community. Her words set the tone for what became an uplifting and energizing gathering. We were also honored by the presence of Mr. Josh Craft, former CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, who shared poignant insights into the challenges facing our communities across Boston, from our youth to our elders. His takeaway? Together, we can do mighty in unity.
A highlight of the day was the heartfelt recognition of Madame Stephanie Martins, Everett’s First Female City Council President and a woman of color, who was celebrated as Grand Marshal of this year’s Legislative Brunch. Madame President accepted her decoration with grace, pride, and humility, showing once again her unwavering commitment to public service and inclusive leadership. Thank you for inspiring us all.
As we reflect on this day of celebration, strategy, and shared purpose, we are filled with hope and determination. Let’s go forward, together, ready to tackle what’s ahead and continue building communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
