At EHCC, we are committed to providing our community — you — with all the resources necessary to live a fulfilling life by strengthening you in mind, body, and soul.
As we always say in Haitian Creole, “Sante Se Richès “, “Health Is Wealth!”. But how can we ensure that you have all the necessary information to attain a state of physical, mental, and emotional well-being? The answer is simple: through Health Literacy!
What is Health Literacy?
The WHO defines Health Literacy as “the ability of individuals to gain access to, understand and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health for themselves, their families and their communities”.
That is why the Everett Haitian Community Center has been organizing health literacy forums, organizing health information workshops, participating in health literacy leadership research, and creating a series of educational videos- in Haitian Creole and English subtitles- about health. This series is called “Ann Pale Zafè Sante,” which means “Let’s discuss health.” The first two videos, which you can watch on our YouTube channel, podcast streaming services, and all other EHCC social media platforms, will help you better understand the different layers of health insurance in Massachusetts, especially MassHealth and the Health Connector. But this is only the beginning, because we will tackle more subjects around health, with special guests as well, so we can help you understand: the best practices for your wellbeing, the different layers in the healthcare system, and all the resources available for you within the community!
If you haven’t seen our latest videos yet, please take a look! If you have already done so, thank you for your support. Don’t hesitate to continue sharing them with your family and friends. And always remember, EHCC is here for you!
Happy Health Literacy Month and Happy Fall!
